Welcome back!  This term our topic is ’Magic Moments’.  We will be thinking about the ways in which they have developed since their birth and the special times they have experienced already.  We will be investigating our senses and identifying similarities and differences between themselves and others.  Our role-play areas will include a Snowden cafĂ©/ Welsh souvenir shop and a medical health check area.  If you have any resources that we may borrow then please send them in.  If you have any expertise in the areas please come and share your information.
Reading will continue as last Half Term.  Would you please write down the exact page numbers you read with the children so we can follow this on in school.  Please send in books on the allocated reading day, even if you have not listened to your child read during the week.  We will be looking at comprehension skills this term please remember to ask your children questions about they have read to ensure understanding.
Numeracy - Practise adding and taking away, doubling and halving, handle coins and talk about how much change should be given.  Children always have difficulty with telling the time so please help your child to develop this skill.
P.E. will be on a Monday this term.  Pupils wear a plain white T-shirt, black plain shorts and plimsolls or bare feet as we will be working in the hall on dance activities.  Show and tell sessions will take place on a Friday.  Each group will take turns each week.  17/1/14—grwp glas, 24/1/14—grwp gwyrdd, 31/1/14 grwp melyn.  We will then start the rota again with grwp coch.

Macmillan Sponsored Walk

I would just like to say a huge thank you to all of you for your generous donations to our Macmillan event.  Mrs Utting-Lawson and I were overwhelmed by your support.  Please look out for photographs of the children completing their walk.  We will let you know how much we have raised as soon as all the money has been collected in.

Welcome to class 8 (year 2).  This term our topic is ‘Our Wonderful World of Colour’.  As part of our history topic we will be looking at how schools have changed and comparing them to how our school is today.  We will be investigating routes in and around the school, how different materials look and feel and finding out about colour and light.  The pupils will be exploring colour mixing and drawing themselves and some artefacts.  We will be asking you to contribute to our colour table by sending in some colour items for the children to explore.

Suggested ways in which you can support literacy and numeracy:
Your child will bring home a reading book and will be given a reading day. Please ensure you listen to child read their book during the week and please make a comment and a record of pages read in the record books.  Please remember to ask questions about the book to ensure your child understands what they are reading.
We will be working hard to improve handwriting in school.  Please encourage your child to practise writing as much as possible.
Numeracy - encourage your child to identify numbers, count on and back in 1s and 10s.  Order numbers to 100.  Practise simple addition and subtraction sums.  Talk about days of the week, months of the year and the seasons.  When you go shopping let them help you look for the correct coins.
Other information:
P.E. will be on a Monday this term.  Pupils wear a plain white T-shirt, black plain shorts and plimsolls or bare feet as we will be working in the hall.

Summer term already!!!!!

Welcome back to school everybody - and here we are making the most of our last term in the infants - and getting ready for the Juniors! Yeah!
We are already preparing for two exciting events- Dylan's turbo challenge next week - and a visit to the local dentist a week later.....the children have decided on a dentist role play in the class as part of our healthy living studies.....Evan Gale has decided he wants to be a dentist when he grows up - so is excited about  finding out all about the job!!!
"all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small!" is our theme- so we are looking forward to growing lots in the golden garden, and of course finding out lots about animals of all kinds. The children have all brought suggestions for our summer trip - we will look at them shortly - and vote for our favourite idea!
Don't forget to write a message on the blog telling me your ideas- what would YOU like to learn about this term? What activities would YOU like to do? Mmmmmm????
